The March Blood Moon

The March Full Moon is commonly referred to as the Worm Moon. Traditionally, this name has been associated with the emergence of earthworms, which surface as the soil warms during early spring, attracting birds like robins and indicating the onset of the new season.

Nonetheless, historical research provides an alternative interpretation. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver noted that the term also pertained to beetle larvae—another form of “worm”—which appear from beneath thawing tree bark and their winter shelters during this period. In either case, the nomenclature captures the essence of the season: nature is beginning to awaken.

This month’s Full Moon will occur on March 3rd, at 6:38 AM EST. There are various elements to consider with this Virgo Moon, so let us explore them in detail!

What Energies are at Play during this Full Moon?

Full Moon Energy

The Full Moon represents a critical opportunity for illumination. During this phase, the Moon is directly opposite the Sun, with the Earth positioned between them, providing a comprehensive view of its entire luminosity. In many ancient cultures, the Full Moon was believed to signify a time when the Earth was so brightly illuminated that the heavens could observe all earthly events. This belief led to the practice of conducting offerings, initiations, and other significant ceremonies during this lunar phase.

The Full Moon is an ideal occasion to formulate requests for spiritual guidance, as the enhanced illumination promotes clarity in communication between individuals and their spiritual allies. Personally, I conduct the majority of my spiritual offerings during the Full Moon, as they tend to receive favorable energy during this time.

This alignment of the Moon, Earth, and Sun results in what are termed “spring tides,” characterized by elevated high tides and reduced low tides resulting from the combined gravitational effects of the Sun and Moon. This significant influence on the Earth’s waters can often lead to heightened emotional responses, feelings of overwhelm, or irritability during Full Moon phases.

Virgo Energy

The Sun and Moon are currently in opposition, with the Sun traversing the intuitive waters of Pisces while the Moon operates within the diligent sign of Virgo. This juxtaposition presents a compelling dynamic: as we emerge from the contemplative phase of winter (Sun in Pisces), the Moon urges us to recognize the tasks that lie ahead before the arrival of the equinox. As the Earth begins to awaken, we need to do the same and engage in productive endeavors.

What significant projects are you intending to undertake this year? If you have yet to establish a plan, this Moon is prompting you to consider why that is the case. Virgo seeks meaningful contributions rather than mundane tasks and is prepared to invest the necessary effort to make these intentions a reality. You may be experiencing a drive this year to acquire new skills, explore a different career path, or engage in community differently. What obstacles have prevented you from making progress in these areas?

Virgo serves as a reminder that we possess the tools and capabilities to achieve our aspirations; however, progress is contingent upon our willingness to act. While the prospect of change may appear daunting and fraught with uncertainty, we are encouraged to step beyond our comfort zones and embrace new opportunities. Merely wishing for change will not yield results—transformation requires deliberate action. What steps are you prepared to take during this Full Moon?

The Seventh House

This transit places the Moon firmly within the seventh house, a domain associated with intimate relationships, deep friendships, and marriage. Ruled by Venus, this house is characterized by the potential for peaceful balance when navigated adeptly.

With the Moon positioned in the seventh house, we may seek assistance, support, and guidance from our relationships. The Virgo Full Moon, eager to exhibit its potential, prompts us to turn to those closest to us in pursuit of our aspirations. Our most trusted allies may identify pitfalls we overlook and challenge us when we become ensnared in outdated behavioral patterns that could hinder our progress. Their insights can be invaluable in refining our objectives, ensuring that we do not repeat previous errors.

However, it is important to acknowledge that this Virgo energy serves as a reminder of our own intrinsic wisdom. While the guidance of our inner circle can be beneficial, it should complement rather than supplant our own judgment. A cautionary note is warranted: avoid dismissing your own insights simply because someone expresses doubts or concerns about a particular course of action. Maintain your confidence in your own knowledge and abilities, and consider external input as an additional lens for evaluating your stance. Constructive criticism can foster personal growth if approached with honesty and intentionality. The seventh house emphasizes balance, an essential tool for navigating all relationships in our lives.

Other Energies at Play

This year, there are multiple energies associated with the Full Moon. The Moon is in sextile with Jupiter in Cancer, presenting opportunities to enhance relationships that may have experienced strain over the winter months. A conjunction with the Moon’s north node highlights upcoming goals for this year and emphasizes the importance of prioritizing physical health. Nurture your body, and it will reciprocate!

An additional notable aspect of this Moon is that Mercury, the ruling planet of Virgo, is currently in retrograde. Typically, this phase may alert overthinkers, yet it can also signify an impending shift. Are there pressing decisions on your horizon? As we transition into the spring season, brimming with new beginnings and opportunities, it is crucial to avoid overanalyzing and missing out on remarkable prospects!

The Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse

A pertinent question arises: why does the Moon appear red during a Full Lunar Eclipse? The explanation for this phenomenon provides insight into the underlying energies at work. In a total lunar eclipse, the Earth is positioned directly between the Sun and the Moon. Consequently, sunlight must traverse the Earth’s atmosphere before reaching the Moon. The shorter wavelengths of light, such as greens and blues, are scattered in the atmosphere, allowing only the red wavelengths to illuminate the Moon. Thus, the Moon takes on a reddish hue.

From an energetic perspective, it is understood that higher wavelengths are associated with ethereal qualities, while shorter wavelengths are linked to the physical realm. Eclipses consistently signify periods of change and transformation; hence, a Blood Moon encourages us to evaluate the shifts in our daily routines and practices. What behavioral patterns are ready to be relinquished to facilitate significant transformations that will propel you into the next stage of your evolution? This lunar event does not primarily provide insights into deep ethereal or spiritual matters, but rather emphasizes the importance of our everyday choices and their impact on our lives.

Ideas for utilizing this New Moon Energy

The Full Moon presents a valuable opportunity to engage in productive activities as we prepare for the arrival of spring. It prompts us to consider the changes we wish to implement and the areas in which we aim to grow this year. What seeds are we sowing for our future?

If you undertook the reflective work during the New Moon, you should now have several ideas to direct your focus this year. If not, simply initiating movement and dispelling the winter blues should suffice to kickstart a successful and productive year!

Ceremonies for Your Personal Growth!

  • Cleansing Bath Ceremony: You can design a restorative cleansing ceremony using Burdock Root and Cleavers. In this process, you will prepare a potent cleavers infusion to incorporate into your bath water. Additionally, brew a tea with Burdock Root and Calendula, sweetening it with a touch of honey. Bring this tea into the bath with you, along with extra calendula petals to add to your bath water if you wish. Set an intention by creating a sacred space, filling the bath, and introducing the cleavers’ infusion and petals into the water. For enhanced support, consider adding a piece of Banded Agate to the water as well. As you soak, relish the tea while visualizing the purification of your being, both within and without. Incorporating a yellow candle into this ritual can also elevate the ambiance with its positive energy!
  • Calendula Candle Magick with Sunstone: Use fire or ginger oil to anoint your candle, then roll it in calendula petals. This can be achieved by softening the candle with a hair dryer, pressing it into the petals, or dipping it into wax and rolling it in the petals. Seek support from your sunstone for motivation in your current endeavors, or if no specific project exists, harness its potential for inspiration and revitalization. Consider inscribing your objective on paper and attaching it to the candle. Establish your sacred space, ignite the candle, and hold the sunstone as it burns. Position the crystal next to the candle and allow it to burn entirely. Maintain the altar undisturbed for a full 24 hours before carrying the sunstone with you!
  • Portable Magick with Amazonite, Aquamarine, Cleavers, and Calendula: Choose a yellow pouch for your sachet. Request collaboration from each ingredient before inclusion, and be attentive to their responses. If there is a specific relationship or life aspect for which you seek guidance from your community, document it on paper and place it within the bag. Secure the pouch with three knots. Anoint your palms using calendula or any oil that promotes positivity. Grasp the bag with both hands, allowing the oil to transfer from your palms into the pouch. Whisper your intentions to the bag. Position the bag beneath your pillow overnight, then carry it with you. Whenever you require additional support related to your goals or connections, hold the bag and attune to its energy.

Blessed Full Moon!
