A New Year Ceremony

I started this ceremony in 2020 due to my Tamed Wild subscription box (one of the best boxes on the market and worth the cost – you should check it out!). It has become a tradition, and this is the third year I am doing it, so I wanted to share it with you all! I have modified it somewhat, so this is my version of the ceremony that came in my box:

Tools Needed:

  • 12 pieces of paper or parchment
  • Pen and paper
  • At least three goals for the year (I picked big things – things that I worked on all year, relationship, career, and personal – but you can choose anything you want. I like doing things in 3’s)
  • Three small crystals in line with your goals
  • Three herbs in line with your goals
  • Floating candle, bowl, water (I used Jericho water, but you can use plain water)
  • Spell Jar
  • Mortar and Pestle
  • Incense in line with your goals.

Be sure you create sacred space in your favorite method before you begin.

Steps:

  1. Take the time to break down your three goals into smaller activities you plan to accomplish every month. For example, one of mine was launching the academy in 2020. My monthly goals included social media posts, creating videos, writing class curriculums, etc. I took some time doing this in the ceremony.
  2. Take one piece of paper, cut it in half and write the first month on it – January – on each half. In the first half, write down three keywords that bring to mind what YOU are working on that month. On the other half, write down what the Universe will be working for you for that same goal. So, for example, if on my half I am working on creating social media content for my academy, on the Universe’s side, I want it to find people who would be interested in my content. Once done, fold the Universe’s list and place it in the jar. Keep your paper face down on your altar. Do this for every month of the year.
  3. Once done, charge your crystals with your intent and drop them in the jar. Next, charge your herbs with your intent and grind them all together in your M&P.
  4. Drop half the herb mixture in the jar and keep the other half close by. Focus on your intent on your breath, and you will use it to carry the intent to the jar. Breathe one word for each project into the jar. Close the jar.
  5. Add water to the bowl and charge your candle with your three project intents.  Once your candle is charged, light it.
  6. Before dropping your candle in the water, use was drippings to seal the jar.
  7.  Once the jar is sealed, drop your candle in the water. Sprinkle some of the herb mixtures on the candle and the water. I kept the herb mixture to continue to use it year-round when I worked on my goals.  If you decide to do this, be sure you make a lot of that mixture.
  8. As the candle burns down, spend some time visualizing what your life will be like once your goals are successful. You can journal during this time if you want (that’s what I did).
  9. Pull your paper out with your goals at the start of each month and work towards them. I carried that in my planner. At the end of the month, if you completed your work, light a candle, sit down, and have a conversation with the Universe. If you didn’t, write down what you did and explain why there was a change. Burn the paper and let the candle burn down. Repeat every month.

This Ceremony has helped me stay accountable all year, but it also helped me expect accountability from the Universe in return. Kind of like, I did my part, now you do yours. In 2020, I did not do the work for a couple of months, and I did not burn those papers. I can see the progression of how I sabotaged myself at those times, and it helped me to re-work my plans in 2021 to make better progress.

Happy 2022!
